Decisions, Decisions, Decisions...
How to Purchase Grass-Fed Meat in Bulk:
Buying grass-fed meat in bulk is not a small feat, especially beef. This is our first time selling and we are still learning. Here, we hope to provide some general information to help you in your decision making.
Ordering A Quarter, Half or Whole:
To order a quarter beef, what you will receive is called a "split half." Because the cuts of meat in the front half differs drastically from the back half, the cuts are divided between the two to make a fair offering. This will limit how you can have your meat cut as you will make compromises with the other customer who will be sharing the other half. This applies only to a quarter beef. When you order a half beef, whole lamb or whole beef, you will not be splitting any cuts with anyone.
Custom Ordering & Pickup:
When you place your reservation for either a quarter beef, half beef, whole lamb or whole beef, we will require a non-refundable deposit to reserve and hold your product: $350 for all beef orders and $100 for lamb.
With your confirmed reservation, we will book a date with the butcher for delivery. We are more than happy to work with you on your order or you can call the butcher directly with any questions you may have to complete your order form. Your final order form of choice cuts is due on the evening before the date of delivery. This order form is exactly how the butcher will custom process you meat. So, be as detailed as possible to get what you want.
Once your order is ready for pickup, we will give you a call. We currently do not offer delivery. Your order will need to be picked up directly from the butcher by you. The final payment of the remaining balance is due before pickup. All meat will be vacuum packed and frozen for transport in boxes. We strongly suggest having a cooler at pickup should the weather be warm and also depending on your travel distance.
The Taste:
The reality is that grass-fed meat will taste different from your store bought meat. Some think its taste is drastically different, gamier and tougher because it is leaner. Some will find the taste to be bolder, more flavorful and fall in love with it at first bite. So far, we have tasted our lamb but not yet the beef. We are ones who have fallen in love with our products at first bite. There is a stronger and bolder flavor that we find other meats are severly lacking. Besides the great taste, we know our products are thousands times healthier.
To Good Health:
Coming to us, we know you savor your food and want food that is good for your health without compromising the environment. Eating healthy food is one of the most important things you can do to improve and sustain your health. Choosing pasture-raised and grass-fed meat is a pleasant and easy way to eat healthy without drastically changing your habits, especially if you have children.
As a first time farmer/rancher, we started this endeavor in 2010 with just three head of cattle. Over the past five years, we have managed our land naturally and expanded our herd. We are excited to launch our first product sales in 2016. While we do not claim to be the experts, however, we have learned a lot. We are proud to say that we have operated Red Oak Farm with great love and stewardship over the land and the animals. We have made all of our decisions with the health of our family in mind - that includes not only ourselves, our kids, but also YOU and YOUR LOVED ONES!t sales.
More Vitamins & Minerals:
Good pasture, like a salad bar of greens, is full of vitamins, minerals, omega 3 fats and other essential nutrients. All this goodness is passed on through the meat. Our rotational grazing and wild herd management system virtually eliminates erosion, removes carbon dioxide from the air, and improves the soil. We believe our well managed pastures have allowed many birds and other native Texas wildlife species to successfully nest, dwell and raise their offsprings. Keeping to the natural biodiversity of the area only improves the overall health of our land and its inhabitants. Our grass-fed meat will have more vitamins A, C, and E, more calcium, more omega 3's (the good fat), more CLA (a potent cancer fighting compound), less total fat, less saturated fat, less calories and less cholesterol than what you would get from the grocery stores.
Our Pledge:
So, what happens if there is something wrong with your meat? We know the last thing you want to do is spend hundreds of dollars on a large order of meat only to find that you and your family do not prefer the taste. So, if grass-fed beef does not suit your taste, we will buy it back from you. It takes a great deal of skill and the right genetics to finish beef and lamb properly on grass alone. While it is a standard practice to finish grass-fed animals on grain for about 3 weeks before butchering, we do not do that. Organic grains and feed are expensive and hard to come by, and is not part of our animal's natural diet. We will finish our herd on grass and expect to achieve excellent results with products you will appreciate and love.
